load carriers
wooden pallet as a load carrier
Load carriers ensure a smooth flow of materials and are essential for the transport of goods and products. Wherever items need to be transported, load carriers are inevitably required - from pallets to containers to lattice boxes, everything is used here.
definition
A load carrier is a portable object that combines goods into a loading unit. The load carrier is standardized according to DIN 30781. Load carriers include the following:
- pallets
- Gitterboxen , plastic GLT and folding boxes
- container
- small load carriers
Load carriers ideally facilitate the handling of goods and thus increase the speed, flow of goods and efficiency of the transport chain.
species
The different load carriers include pallets, lattice boxes, containers, as well as small and large load carriers.
pallets
Pallets are used for bundling, storing and, above all, transporting large quantities of (stackable) goods or individual, heavy items. Working with pallets is done with the help of industrial trucks, such as pallet trucks or forklifts .
Pallets are probably the most commonly used load carriers. They come in different sizes and are made of different materials (wood, plastic and corrugated cardboard). They are also categorised according to how often they are used (reusable or disposable) and how they are used (exchange system).
The best-known pallet is the Europool pallet - standardized according to EN 13698-1.
- Dimensions: 1200mm x 800mm x 144mm (L x W x H)
- Weight: 20 - 24 kg
- Eleven boards, nine blocks, 78 special nails
- floor space of 0.96 m²
- reusable
However, there are other types of pallets that are frequently used. These include:
- half and quarter pallets
- industrial pallets
- chemical pallets
- display palettes
- disposable pallets
- INKA/ pressed wood pallets
One distinction is made between disposable pallets and reusable pallets. The former are designed for one-off transport routes, can be used once and are generally not very stable. Reusable pallets, on the other hand, are intended for continuous use, are manufactured according to certain standards and are robust. They are exchanged in a system.
Gitterboxes, plastic GLT and folding boxes
In addition to pallets, lattice boxes are also often used. They offer special protection for the goods being transported. Due to their robust metal construction, they are particularly suitable for transporting sensitive goods.
The Euro lattice box is standardized, is used in an exchange system and is stackable thanks to its angle attachments. The Gibo can be accommodated from four sides.
- External dimensions: 1240 mm x 835 mm x 970 mm (L x W x H)
- Internal dimensions: 1200 mm x 800 mm x 800 mm (L x W x H)
- empty weight: 70 kg
- Usable volume: 0.75 m³
- Load capacity: 1000 - 1500 kg
- Load: 4400 - 6000 kg
- Depending on the manufacturer and quality, three to five units can be stacked.
The half-height lattice box has the same dimensions as the classic lattice box. The only difference is the height. The half-height lattice box is only half as high as the classic one.
Plastic GLT and folding boxes impress with their low weight and easy cleaning. Examples of plastic GLT are pallet containers with feet, wheels or runners with a base area of a Euro pallet. The heights vary. They are durable, highly resilient and stackable.
container
Containers are large containers that are used permanently for the transport of packaged or unpackaged goods. The gross weight, load capacity and external dimensions are recommended by ISO and are also specified internationally by regulations. There are different variants for various purposes.
The best known container is the ISO container: a standardized large-capacity container made of steel, designed for easy, quick loading and storage of goods. Coordinated and defined in ISO standard 668 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
small load carriers
Small load carriers - KLT for short - also called small load carriers, Euro boxes, Euronorm containers or Euronorm boxes, are transport and storage boxes standardized by the VDA. They are made of plastic and have fixed colors.
The boxes can be stacked in several layers. The dimensions are chosen so that four boxes (600 mm x 400 mm) cover a Euro pallet. Foldable models are also available.
small load carriers
The load carriers are used depending on the size, weight and nature of the goods, as well as depending on which industrial trucks are available for transport.
- Pallets are suitable for storing small parts in bulk or for large, heavy individual parts.
- Gitterboxes are often used for sensitive goods.
- Small load carriers are suitable for small parts.
- Containers offer plenty of space for the transport or storage of large goods or collected small goods.
Due to their high practicality and adaptability, the load carriers are used across industries and sectors!
